Starting January 1st, 2024 Steamboat Willie is in the public domain, allowing it to be used in various media. Many studios are already taking advantage of this, such as Nightmare Forge Games.

The original game title was called Infestation 88, which caused controversy due to the fact that 88 and 14 are common references to Neo-Nazis. The original purpose of the naming scheme was allegedly to relate the year the game takes place during 1988.

Nightmare Forge Games have changed the name to Infestation: Origins after widespread backlash. The studio has been open and apologetic regarding this event, and are willing to answer any forms of questions or concerns to ensure there is no relation to Neo-Nazis in Infestation: Origins.

The game itself offers single and multiplayer support (up to four players). Infestation: Origins is an episodic-based survival horror experience. The main goal is to find and destroy the source of the infestation, and uncover the mysteries of how it all started.

Each episode offers a new location, new mystery, and new “classic character” to encounter. Infestation: Origins has no solid release date, but is expected to release sometime in 2024. As of right now, Infestation: Origins is available to be wishlisted on Steam.
